For many years Camille was perhaps the most famous inhabitant of the
Navarrese Pyrenees. He was big, hairy and had an enormous appetite. Yes, a brown bear, the only one in
Navarre, feared by stockbreeders because of his liking for sheep. This gives an idea why the race bears its name… not just feared like our brown friend but also for the extremely hard route. The start is in
Isaba, the route has ups and downs of 4,066 metres and a total length of 31.6 kilometres. The Camille Extreme is one of the toughest mountain races in
Navarre.
It's not all suffering, however. As well as enjoying the beautiful scenery of the
Roncal valley, you can take part in the festivities that are held all weekend in the picturesque
village of Isaba.
