On the 29th, Artajona
celebrates the fiestas of its patron saint, St Saturnino, with a chestnut feast open to the public and a cross country race.
Specifically, the feast in honour of St Saturnino is held on the nearest weekend to the 29th November, and the most eagerly awaited event is unquestionably the stilts race. This is a curious contest in which young people from the town and neighbouring towns, dressed in traditional garments, compete to be the first to arrive at the medieval walled enclosure
. It is not easy and plenty of falls assured as they have to climb a hill along a steep cobbled road mounting layas (a traditional spade used to turn over the earth in the fields until last century).A show that's certainly worth watching.
