The
fiesta is held from the 14
th to the 20
th of August in honour of Our Lady of the Assumption (15
th of August) and Saint Sebastian (16
th), both patron saints of the town, with solemn religious ceremonies attended by the municipal council, accompanied by dancers, pipers,
txistularis, the troupe of giants and
kilikis, and members of the public.
On the afternoon of the 14
th of August, the
Subida a la Salve (Climb to the Salve) is particularly worthy of note. The Church of Santa Maria, packed with locals and visitors alike, is the venue for this magnificent sung prayer.
At eight o'clock in the morning, after the reveilles,
fighting bulls charge through the streets. The mornings, full of colour and festive cheer, invite you to walk through the streets in the company of the
Giants and groups of joteros, and share a mid-morning bite of lamb chops,
migas (shepherd's crumbs) or stew in the town's backyards and lanes.
There is music everywhere, in practically every street and all public places, and the well-known groups of young people, the
Peñas, create a
wonderful open-air atmosphere, making the town a particularly attractive place to visit in this week of August.
The festival programme is completed with bullfights involving young and full-fledged fighting bulls, children's shows, exhibitions of rural sports, open-air dances and concerts for the young.
