Medium-sized wader with cryptic colouring that inhabits open fields in the central zone and the south.

Zones: Central Zone and southern Navarre.

Recommended observation points: Bardenas, Laguna de Pitillas.

Times of the year present: all year round, but above all at breeding time.

Observation: relatively easy, although easier still at dawn and dusk, when it is more active and makes more noise.

Nature: summer visitor, winter in small number.

Description: medium-sized, stylised bird with long legs and body, and prominent head. Relatively short bill with yellow base and black tip. Highly mimetic, brown plumage. In flight, conspicuous white patches on wing tips.
