The treaty signed in 1856 by the valleys of Erro
) and Baigorri
(France) to share grazing land around Sorogain still remains in force. During the year, a traditional livestock branding
ceremony is done to distinguish the animals from one side of the border and the other, one in May for cows and horses
and another in September for sheep
. The branding of the Navarrese animals is done with a "VE" (the Valley of Erro
) starting at 9 a.m. and the day continues with a lunch, music and festivities in an incredibly beautiful natural setting.
