Festival of Regional Tourist Interest, the Rite of the Three Kings is performed in
Sangüesa on 6th January every year at 11,30 a.m., and its significance stems from the fact that there are only
five rites of this kind in Spain. It is an open-air theatrical performance which was written in verse in 1900 by José de Legarda for the Auroros of Sangüesa, and is performed by the townsfolk themselves.
With the arrival of the Three Wise Men to worship the Child, the streets of old Sangüesa are brought alive with the meeting with Herod, the conversations with the shepherds and the Angel's warning of the King's evil intentions. The performance culminates with a moving mass in the
Church of Santiago in the presence of the Three Wise Men, in which the Auroros sing.
