In the first weekend in September the Pyrenean village
dresses up to relive the way its people lived 100 years ago. Spinners, washerwomen, barbers, children playing games and many other characters help the visitor to step back in time to the early 20th century in theNavaresse Pyrenees
. The people of Ochagavía organise the festival and take part in it too. Lost occupations
are on display throughout the day. Do not miss the matatxerri (slaughter of the pig), the threshing, or the washerwomen in the river in period costume. The little ones can enjoy themselves playing games of the epoch and discovering long-lost customs.
There are also display panels
on the economy and social life of 1900 that throw light on those times. Make sure you visit the local tavern, decorated with old furniture… it is forbidden to smoke and swear, the rules of the past!
