Medium-sized bird with characteristic brownish-orangey and black-and-white plumage and a striking crest. Very common in our countryside.

Zones: Central Zone, Pamplona and southern Navarre.

Recommended observation points: Bardenas, Laguna de Pitillas, Las Cañas Reservoir, Sotos del Arga, Sangüesa, Lumbier-Arbaiun.

Times of the year present: from April to October.

Observation: easy.

Nature: summer visitor.

Description: medium-sized bird with orangey-brown colouring and black-and-white striped wings and tail. Long, down-curved bill and a prominent crest which stands on end when alarmed. Undulating, butterfly-like flight. In flight, its wings are wide and rounded, emphasising its striking black and white design.
