Puente de Auzola
The town of Aoiz lies 28 kilometres from Pamplona in the heart of the pre-Pyrenean river valleys that lead on to the Central Zone of Navarre. A noble four-arched medieval bridge, the Bidelepu, watches over the waters of the river Irati flowing down from the Pyrenees.

In the historical centre of Aoiz, which was walled until the 16th century, you can see examples of mansions built from ashlar stones, some of them sporting coats-of-arms, with pointed doorways, wooden lintels and Baroque windows.

The most notable of these is the house of the Argamasilla de la Cerda family, a Renaissance-style building with an L-shaped layout. Standing opposite this noble house, at the north end of the town, is the imposing church of San Miguel. The church houses a magnificent altarpiece from the 18th century, created from parts of a much older one made by Juan de Anchieta in 1580, and also an image of the Virgin and Child in the north transept and the Crucifixion in the south transept, both the work of the same sculptor. There is also a striking baptismal font that goes back to mediaeval times.

If you're visiting the town, be sure not to leave without a trying Aoiz's delicious crunchy-topped pudding.

Did you know that...?

A tan solo 3 km de Aoiz, puedes llegar en coche hasta la misma presa del Embalse de Itoiz, donde encontrarás un área de acogida con paneles interpretativos sobre esta obra hidráulica y la localidad de Aoiz.

How to get there and move around

Salir de Pamplona por la carretera a Huarte dirección Francia hasta la rotonda. En ésta, salir por la NA-150 dirección Aoiz hasta Villaveta, donde se enlaza con la NA-1720.
