Emergencies: Wounded birds

You may come across a wounded or sick bird or wild animal. The Government of Navarre has a Wild Animal Recovery Centre in Ilundain (Valley of Aranguren) which attends such animals.

If you come across a bird in these conditions, place it in a dark box (to help it calm down). Do not give it food or drink and try to handle it as little as possible. Call 112 as soon as possible so that somebody can come to collect it. It is a good idea to make some notes concerning your discovery: species, location, date, time, circumstances, etc.

Should you find a dead bird, it is also a good idea to hand it over to the Recovery Centre, particularly if it involves one of the species catalogued as "In danger of extinction" or "Vulnerable" (see the Check-list to find what these species are, so that the cause of death can be determined.
