The reservoir is divided in two by a dyke and used to be dammed to increase its volume and allow for crop irrigation. There is generous marsh vegetation and a good Tamarisk coverage. There is a large surface of open water. The observatory is on the hill of El Bordón.
This area was declared of international importance by the Ramsar Agreement.

This area is a Site of Community Importance, ZEPA (Special Bird Protection Area) and Natural Reserve.

How to get there and move around

- From Pamplona, on the A-12 and the N-111 after Estella. The entrance to the reserve is on the left, almost 5 km. beyond Viana. - From Logroño, on the N-111 towards Pamplona. Take the right-hand turning after the industrial estate.


From 16/07-15/09 open weekends from 12:00-14:00 and from 18:00-20:00.
