Half-way between Pamplona and Estella-Lizarra and 500 metres from the village of Salinas de Oro stand some pans where salt is obtained using completely artisanal methods. Active since Roman times, and linked to the Roman road that can still be seen, the pans are among the few still used today, as many were abandoned due to high production costs.

If you fancy a different kind of morning, come to the Salt Day and take part in some of the activities: the presentation of the new fine salt crop, a visit to the salt pans, a gastronomic workshop run by renowned chefs, a traditional product fair or fun workshops for the kids. Are you up for tasting the salt of life?

Did you know that...?

The salt pans are included in the European "Ecosal-Atlantis" salt route.
Salt is a cheap product nowadays but it was certainly not in ancient times. Among its uses, it was an exchange currency, hence the word 'salary', and it also had therapeutic and medicinal properties and could be used for preserving foodstuffs.
