Battle of Lácar

Pilgrim's Way to Santiago
Fiestas, traditions and events of interest

On February 3rd, during the Second Carlist War, a major offensive by the Carlist army against the Liberal troops took place in the locality of Lácar. It ended with the victory of the Carlist forces.
It was a surprise attack, carried out while the Liberal troops were having lunch in the village square.
More than 1,000 soldiers on both sides died in the battle. Alfonso XII, still very young, had to leave the battleground very quickly as he was on the point of being captured by the Carlist troops.
Lácar commemorates the battle on June 25th, with a number of events including a guided tour to the battle sites and a theatrical re-enactment of it.
The commemoration has been declared a Festivity of Regional Tourist Interest in Navarre.
