Peralta, 33 kilometres south-west of Olite, goes back 2000 years in time every year to celebrate one of the most colourful and curious Christmas events in Navarre. The whole town turns into a giant nativity scene where the daily life of two thousand years ago is stated while the town's priest narrates the event over loudspeakers. This great theatre play, in which hundreds of local residents participate, takes place in the old quarter of the town. The route runs for about one kilometre from the church of San Juan Bautista (St John the Baptist) to the area called Campanar.

Along the way, the visitor will find a great variety of places: a synagogue, an apothecary's shop, the palace of the governor Quirino (where the registry was located in the past), a dairy, inns, a bakery, potters, seamstresses, millers, dancers... and, of course, Joseph, Mary and the Baby Jesus in the manger. There are also gastronomic tastings with stalls offering chistorra (spicy sausage), chestnuts, popcorn, pancakes, migas (shepherds' breadcrumbs), wine and cheese. A good idea for a Christmas excursion.
