Every 7th December, Mendigorría
celebrates this curious tradition with a peculiar name. It is a fiesta in which people get together to eat and drink and pay tribute to an ancient custom that perhaps very few can actually remember. In the past, the men went around the village trying out the new wines from the bodegas to test their quality. To make sure their women did not bother them, they told them there was a zorra (vixen) loose in the streets, although the only zorra
(which also means 'hangover') was the one they had thanks to the wine. Nowadays the villagers also enjoy chistorra (spicy sausage) and roast chestnuts, accompanied by the village band.
