Santa María la Real of Orreaga/Roncesvalles, Queen of the Pyrenees, is venerated in many localities. The devoted from valleys, villages and parishes walk each spring to her legendary shrine to pay heartfelt tribute. Worshipers from the Valleys of Aezkoa, Erro and Arce, the villages of Luzaide/Valcarlos, Aurizberri/Espinal and Auritz/Burguete, and the parishes of Aoiz and San José de la Chantrea in? Pamplona form part of the local landscape in the months of May and June.

The Romería of the Valley of Arce is notable because it dates from the 16th century and the Romería of the Valley of Aezkoa stands out as the most ornate and colourful. The traditional costumes of the valley mix in with the dark robes of the cross bearers and the black veils of the barefoot penitents. They all march in silence to the altar of the Virgin in the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria. A bucolic scene, impregnated with sentiment.
