Day of the Pasty

Fiestas, traditions and events of interest / Gastronomic event, Thematic day

On the eve of the festivity of Ascension Day, the time comes to taste the traditional local empanada (pasty) in Fitero on the banks of the river Alhama. This dish is typical of the town and is prepared from dough, oil, boiled eggs, slices of chorizo and rabbit stew. Once the dough has been baked, the result is a tasty and strong round pasty..

Although the pasty is the star of this rural festivity, it shares the limelight with another attraction, the popular game of las chapas. Two old coins are used, and heads or tails choose the lucky winners of the bets, which reach astronomical sums of money as the night progresses! Place your bets, this is the only week in the year in which this game of change is permitted.

To complement these activities, a street market is set up in the town selling products from the area such as wine, honey and cold meats/sausage.
