Calles de Bargota
In July, Bargota becomes the capital of witchcraft for a week. Against a 17th-century backdrop, this small village located 7 kilometres from Viana hosts a number of activities on this theme. It is no surprise that the locality should be selected for this celebration, as one of its most famous and legendary characters is Johanes, a warlock who can still be seen flying across the starry sky…

For a week, the people of the village dress up the streets with banners, hay balas and old furniture to commemorate the past. A number of activities round off a programme full of magic: a mediaeval market where traditional products from Navarre are sold, and thematic 'corners'. For example, a stall with potions, another on child witchcraft, a coven or the 'Inquisition corner' are some of the key attractions that the visitor should not miss. There are also talks, exhibitions and workshops to clear up any doubts about the enigmatic world of witchcraft.
