Otazu Caves

Picking up the historical bonds that link the region of Echauri with grape-growing and winemaking, especially the domains of Otazu and Eriete, in 1991 the company Gabarbide S.A. decided to plant vines on some 110 hectares around the property's buildings in the style of a French chateau.
It also planned the remodelling of the old bodega and the construction of a new one, combining tradition, modernity and beauty. The end result was the emergence on the current Navarrese winemaking scene of an extraordinary wine-ageing bodega, which currently holds 2,000 casks and puts the company up with the top regional winemakers.
The bodega makes both red and white wines. The reds follow the ageing process for Crianza and Reserva wines while the whites, based on the Chardonnay grape, can either be young or fermented in new French oak casks. The first bottles were marketed under the names "Palacio de Otazu" and "Palacio de Eriete", and it is anticipated that in future they will bear the names of "Señorío de Otazu" and "Señorío de Eriete".
